A Milestone of Hope

One Million Graduates from The Prisoners Journey®

Bethany MacDonald

Prison Fellowship International – Director, Prison Programs

As we reflect on the journey that began in 2014, it is hard to fully grasp the incredible impact we have witnessed over the years. The Prisoners Journey® (TPJ) started with a simple yet powerful vision: to reach those incarcerated men and women around the world with the message of hope, restoration and the transformative power of faith.

From launching TPJ in just two countries (Nigeria and South Africa), the program is delivered today in 35 countries, because of our incredible National Ministry program partners and passionate volunteers. This month, I am overjoyed to celebrate a milestone that reflects the faith, perseverance and tireless work of so many: TPJ has reached one million program graduates!

One million prisoners have experienced the life-changing message of Jesus Christ through a journey through Mark’s Gospel like few have experienced. One million souls have encountered the power of redemption and healing. One million souls have thought about (and talked about) who Jesus is, why He came and what it means personally. TPJ is often a gate to restoration, not only to prisoner participants themselves, but also rippling across prisoners they live amongst, their families, communities and beyond.

This milestone is not just a number—it represents real people who have experienced a life-altering shift. It’s a reflection of countless stories of self-exploration, newfound hope, and behavioral change. In every country where TPJ is active, there are men and women who testify to the hope they’ve found and the restoration they’ve received. Church volunteers and government officials of all ranks explain the changes they see within prison.

We are especially grateful for our strategic partners and volunteers across the globe who have made this possible. TPJ would not be possible without our partnership with Christianity Explored Ministries, as this ministry created the foundational methodology of the program and continues to lend its support and expertise.

From those who lead group sessions to those who pray, support and advocate for this work, you have played a vital role in the transformation of these lives. Your dedication to the mission has been a testament to the love of Christ in action. Other vital partners like Bible League International and Eastern European Mission provide scores of donated Bibles, so Prison Fellowship International can provide every graduate their own Bible as part of the TPJ graduation ceremony. Together, our impact is greater.

One million graduates means one million stories. And each of those stories is a victory of hope over despair, light over darkness, and life over death.

Looking Forward: A Vision for the Future

As we celebrate this momentous achievement, we are not resting on our laurels. There is still much work to be done. There are over twelve million incarcerated men and women around the world—many of whom are yet to hear the message of Jesus Christ’s love and redemption. Our goal is to continue expanding, deepening and strengthening the impact of TPJ so that every person in prison has access to the hope that has transformed so many others.

We are committed to building stronger partnerships, advancing our resources and creating new ways to support those who are in need of restoration. But we cannot do this alone. We invite you to join us in this ongoing journey, whether through prayer, advocacy, financial support or volunteering. Together, we can bring the hope of the gospel to the millions who are waiting for a second chance.

A Heartfelt Thank You

To everyone who has supported this ministry—thank you. Your prayers, encouragement and contributions have made this milestone possible. We could not have reached this point without you. And to every one of the one million graduates—thank you for choosing to embrace the hope, grace and freedom that God offers. Your courage and transformation inspire us every day.

Here’s to the next million graduates, and beyond.
