Week of Prayer

Week of Prayer was created for National Ministries to connect with churches and the community to educate about and pray for ministry with prisoners, their families and crime victims. It can be observed during any week throughout the year.

About Week of Prayer

Week of Prayer, which can be observed at any time during the year, mobilizes communities in supporting prisoners, ex-prisoners, their families and the victims of crime by bringing National Ministry staff, volunteers and community members together to pray and serve. It is an opportunity to:

  • Highlight specific ways churches, businesses, Christian groups and individuals can partner with your ministry.
  • Promote awareness of your ministry and its work.
  • Recruit new volunteers and raise funds.
  • Expand relationships with other prison ministries and prison chaplains.
  • Engage with criminal justice agencies and the government.

Material Downloads

Materials in several themes and languages can be downloaded for your use to make your Week of Prayer a success. Start by downloading the Leader’s Guide for detailed instructions on how to prepare for and run your Week of Prayer.

Posters can be used to advertise the week throughout the community to encourage participation. Additional information may be added to the posters in the blank space provided at the bottom. Bookmarks are a practical way to hold your Week of Prayer close to the heart, tucked into the pages of a Bible to serve as a reminder to join in prayer. They are also a popular giveaway item. Social media posts can help in getting the word out about your Week of Prayer with your larger supporter audience, even if they aren’t located in the same geographic location. Posts are available for a variety of platforms.
